My definition of stressful pressing would be pushing oneself too far. It is not about the known limits because limits can be stretched; when physical ailments began to occur then I believe it becomes stressful pressing. People often stress over things that are not required or not of significance. Now that is stressful pressing. Sometimes there is a fine line between stressful pressing and pushing for excellence. Pushing for excellence would be having a willingness to stretch oneself and an ability to push beyond the pain. In order to be great, one has to be willing to put in the work…even when it hurts; that can mean doing things that are maybe not in a certain comfort zone or maybe not part of the plan. Pushing for excellence often requires revising our plan. Pushing for excellence is excelling and excelling means being superior. Being superior comes with practicing excellence, being determined, being focused and staying the course. Gotta go to work… I’m out!
"Pushing for excellence would be having a willingness to stretch oneself and an ability to push beyond the pain-Reggie." I am in total agreement with this.
The main difference that comes to my mind between pushing and stressing is the willingness to take part in the "growth or pains" of the task. For instance stress can be put on me over a simple task simply because of my lask of willingness. Whereas If i am fully willing to do what it takes or willing to go the distance I will be able to push to the maximum without the "stress" of the task.
Pain is not an option, it is a guarantee. Pain is painful...it is discomfort, without pain I don't feel that we as humans would grow to the extent that we do....without the pain or discomfort that comes with life; the pain and discomfort that comes with willingness/obedience to serve God and others.
Question: Do you know the difference between stressful pressing and pushing for excellence?
Quick answer...
Often there is no difference between the two. Stressful pressing is often an ingredient for excellence. I don't know of any successful person that has made it without stress. However, stress without planning and support is an empty island.
I'd rather stress over something that I love than over something I have no interest in. And most of you know that stress in the home is a totally different animal. It can negate just about anything positive in our lives.
