Have you put your self in someone else’s shoes lately?" Written By: Vanessa L. Guidry

I wrote this piece as a way for people in general to be grateful for things we have, to put one self in another's person shoes. Sometimes we are so focused on our own circumstances, we forget about the next person. Sometimes things are not always what they appear to be. Each situation depicts real and fictional stories. I hope this piece gives us all something to think about ...

Have you put your self in someone else’s shoes lately?

Have you put your self in someone else’s shoes lately?
You look at the elderly homeless man pushing a basket full of cans down the street
He is old enough to be your grandfather,
As a child you watch him everyday pushing the basket smiling but breathlessly,
Even at your young age, you know this is not how life is suppose to be
But he is just trying to make a living, with no home or food to eat.

What about the classmate you went to school with
That you hate so much because she was always talking about people
Bet you did not know her mom was a crack head
who sold her body and children for drugs
She being the product of rape herself,
On the outside tough, but she still took time to pray before she went to bed.

Maybe you have a co-worker who is not always friendly to you
At work she sometimes come off as what some calls a “B*tch!”
She have two teenage daughters, one is mentally challenged
While the other she found out is pregnant,
To top it off she has cancer, and just trying to make it.
But her strength and faith in the lord is what continually makes her rich!

What about the man who you might have judged because of his raggedy clothes.
You see him on the street corners preaching the gospel begging for change.
He’s being ignored because people think he is crazy, and will use the money for whiskey
Some may think his story is a tragedy, because his job laid him off,
a drunk driver killed his family, to which he is the only survivor of
But his will to live, give and love,
leads him to donate his change to non-profit organizations.

The real question is “Have You Put Your Self in Jesus Shoes Lately?”

I believe that if we do just that , we will not be so judgemental towards each other and will remember that we are not here to look down on the next person. It is far more better to look for the GOD in everyone we encounter on a daily basis. A few months ago I came across a man at the the bus stop who was not so clean , and I wondered what had happened to him, I knew he did not decide to wake up one morning and not bath again! I then noticed that he was about to pick up some old cigarrette buts off the ground - that move hurt me to my heart - I almost cried! I gave him a few that I had and asked him not to do what he was doing - he was grateful and told me thank you. Eventhough he was not someone most people would speak to , he was gracious enough to admonish kindness towards him. I thank GOD that I no longer look at the appearance of a person in order to determine who they are on the inside!!!
